What is Special Scholarship Program (SSP)?

Special Scholarship Program (SSP) was established in 2003 in order to support the advanced research of the university by enlisting the help of highly capable international students. Every year in April and October, the university enrolls selected foreign doctoral students under specific research projects. The students pursue the doctoral course in English while at the same time assisting their host professor as a research assistant (RA). The Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC) is funded by the German Excellence Initiative. It conceptionally combines different research areas (microbial communities, interactions with plant, animal and human hosts and environmental interactions) to a comprehensive picture of microbial communication (www.jsmc.uni- jena.de). JSMC is an ambitious Graduate School prospectively comprising 150 PhD students who will be educated in a structured, interdisciplinary training program based on top-level fundamental research. Four faculties of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, six non-university research institutions as well as twelve partner companies are participating in this cutting edge research and training program which includes an innovative PhD program, career development and intensive sociocultural care. Three embedded existing Research Training Groups as well as twelve other cooperative research projects are engaged to incorporate novel research areas to achieve a
complete view of microbial communication.

Scholarship funds are available to support a top-level graduate student wishing to read for a PhD degree in Robust Control Theory and/or Robust Control Application to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The funds are available through an EPSRC project and are available to either UK or EU or overseas students. The successful candidate will work with Dr A Lanzon at the Control Systems Centre, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Manchester, UK. Excellent knowledge of modern control theory and control fundamentals is essential, and demonstrable mathematical strengths are desirable.

A PhD studentship including full fees and maintenance is available in the internationally leading Control and Instrumentation Research Group of the University of Leicester. This studentship is open to applicants of any nationality and will be awarded solely on the basis of academic merit. Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarships for High School
Graduates

The Embassy of Japan is offering Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarships to Indonesian high school graduates who wish to study at University (S-1); Colleges of Technology (D-3) or Professional Training Colleges (D-2) in Japan for the academic year 2009 (April 2009). An applicant can only apply for one program, either S-1, D-3 or D-2.

TWAS Fellowships for Postgraduate Research

Each year, the TWAS Fellowship Programmes, which operate under agreements with governments and national organizations in developing countries – particularly Brazil, China, India and Pakistan – offer a number of fellowships to young scientists from developing countries to carry out postgraduate research in developing countries other than their own.
